The Points Guy launches app to maximize return on loyalty points

The Points Guy, a lifestyle and travel media company owned by Red Ventures, is launching an app that allows users to track all of their airline, hotel and credit card points in one place in an effort to maximize earning potential.

Why should we care?
Loyalty point tracking is a pain point for customers looking to maximize the return on their investments in brand loyalty. The Points Guy app uses the same approach as personal finance apps that allow customers to aggregate accounts. The company says the app will offer a personalized plan that can lead towards a dream vacation that suits users’ lifestyles. Similar to personal finance platforms, the app will let users monitor their spending habits, track progress toward goals, and make recommendations. It will also include a travel-related news feed. It’s unclear what user data collected via the app will be used for, but The Points Guy CEO and founder Brian Kelly suggests an improved user experience around loyalty point tracking is a key objective. “I’ve seen hardcore earners track loyalty program rules in Excel sheets and Post-it Notes, so we're excited for the app to make the chaos systematic and hopefully entice more casual earners to participate in tracking,” he said in a statement. The app will include two sections, including a points tab that displays hotel, airline and credit card points and miles balances all in one place, including status tiers and point expiration dates. Meanwhile, an “explorer” tab offers a travel search function and a tool that breaks down whether to use cash or points when booking a flight.
