Insurtech Openly taps Flyreel for AI-supported virtual property inspections

Openly, which offers premium homeowners insurance through independent agents, is partnering with AI startup Flyreel to integrate its toolset as part of a streamlined home inspection process.

Why should we care?
In-person home inspections, particularly in the socially-distanced coronavirus era, are a challenge for homeowners. Openly’s new solution allows homeowners to do self-inspections through Flyreel's AI tools, video, and a conversational chatbot, in 20 to 30 minutes. Flyreel’s AI assistant guides users through interior and exterior property scans, and using proprietary insurance-specific computer vision technology, extracts and indexes every detail of the property, including contents, features, hazards, risks, conditions, and materials. Openly’s move is part of a bigger trend in the insurance industry to tap virtual inspections to enhance speed, accuracy, and improve user experiences. Another industry example is Allstate’s use of drones to assess damaged homes. “We're proud to support Openly as they empower policyholders to inspect their own homes, at their own pace, using artificial intelligence and a touchless experience," said Cole Winans, CEO of Flyreel. Boston-based Openly, founded in 2017, has raised $62.7M.
