Poly Network wants hacker to become chief security advisor

Poly Network is a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform that was the target of a hack last week resulting in $600M in stolen crypto. Most of the stolen crypto was returned, but Poly Network is now asking the hacker if they would like to become part of its team as chief security advisor.

Why should we care?
The Poly Network hack is one of the biggest crypto heists of all time. Last week, a person claiming to be the hacker, who returned most of the money, said they carried out the attack “for fun” and suggested there could be lessons learned from the incident. In turn, Poly Network offered the hacker a $500,000 reward for restoration of the funds, and offered them a security advisor role. Poly Network is asking for the hacker’s assistance to improve network security. The hack, however, is not fully over, as the hacker is still holding crypto assets valued at around $200M for reasons that aren’t completely clear. Poly Network is appealing to the hacker to unlock access to the funds. “We fully respect Mr. White Hat’s [the hacker’s] thoughts, and to express our gratitude, we will still transfer this $500,000 bounty to a wallet address approved by Mr. White Hat for him to use at his own discretion for the cause of cybersecurity and supporting more projects and individuals,” Poly Network said in a statement. It does not intend to hold the hacker legally responsible for the attack.
