Daylight, a challenger bank for LGBT+ customers, launches in the US
/Daylight is a mobile-first digital banking platform launched to support LGBT+ people as they navigate their financial challenges.
Why should we care?
Daylight co-founders Rob Curtis, the company’ CEO, and Billie Simmons, its chief of staff, say their product suite caters to the underserved demographic of 30 million-plus LGBT+ Americans, many of whom have trouble managing their finances. Daylight’s offerings are similar to other consumer-focused challenger banks, including checking accounts, cards, and financial tools, but the company is adding additional features to appeal to its target demographic. These include the ability to use a preferred name, financial advice, and resources tailored to LGBT+ communities, financial coaches specialized in LGBT+ money management and life events, and opportunities to contribute to charities. The platform is supported by a group of well-established partners, including payments infrastructure unicorn Marqeta, and the company is a member of Visa’s fintech Fast Track program. The LGBT+ fintech sphere is quickly expanding, with the launch of Superbia, an LGBT+-focused credit union earlier this year, and increased attention on LGBT+ customers from large banks.
