Thoma Bravo’s Latest Splash
/Private equity firm Thoma Bravo made another splashy — and large — tech investment this week when it announced it’s acquiring U.K. cybersecurity firm Sophos for $3.8 billion. Sophos employs some 3,400 people, and Thoma Bravo indicated that major restructuring is not likely to occur, at least not initially.
The PE firm also made waves earlier this year when it acquired mortgage fintech provider Ellie Mae for $3.7 billion.
Regarding this latest acquisition, many predict we will see a spate of additional outside takeovers of U.K.-based firms, as the Pound Sterling has weakened ahead of the looming Brexit deadline. PE firms may see this uncertainty as a unique opportunity to acquire British companies.
