Square takes on Amazon and other e-commerce rivals by partnering with Google
Square is partnering with Google to offer sellers on its platform greater visibility.
Why should we care?
Square is perhaps best known for its payment and checkout tools, but the company is establishing itself as a full-suite commerce platform for businesses that include an array of additional features including online selling, online-to-offline integration, order management, and more. The partnership with Google involves an integration with Google Merchant Center that makes it easier for Square sellers to reach new customers through direct product listings on Google. It allows sellers to add their item catalog to Google touchpoints, including Search, the Shopping tab, Images, Maps, and YouTube. “Our new integration will help Square for Retail merchants become discoverable to more people across Google for free, and ultimately give consumers more choice in their shopping journeys,” said Bill Ready, President of Commerce, Payments & NBU at Google. Square isn’t the only commerce platform that’s partnered with Google. Last week, Shopify and Google announced that they’re working on an integration that will allow Shopify merchants to feature their products on Google Search, Maps, Images, Lens, and YouTube.
