Crypto wallet ZenGo launches US debit card
Tel Aviv-based ZenGo launched a crypto debit card for U.S. users, days after Coinbase announced the launch of a visa debit card for U.S. consumers next year.
Why should we care?
To use ZenGo’s card, users must convert crypto to fiat currency beforehand. This is an additional step compared to some other crypto cards. “The issue if you do it automatically like Coinbase is that you can’t pick which crypto you want to use for spending. They decide for you or they force you to make a choice once for all your transactions,” ZenGo co-founder and CEO Ouriel Ohayon told TechCrunch. Like Coinbase and other crypto card offerings (including crypto debit card Paxful which just launched this week), the rise of these products is a bet on future adoption of crypto as a payment method, especially as established financial services companies like Square and PayPal offer crypto services for their customers. ZenGo is part of Visa’s Fast Track program, demonstrating the interest of mainstream financial players in the evolution of cryptocurrencies.
